- I recently installed a Zoom V34C PC Card modem in an Apple Powerbook
- 5300CS. The modem worked great for me at work and at home. Unfortunately
- my boss can't get the modem to work at his house which was just built and
- has new wiring. The modem reports that there is no dial tone. At first
- I thought this was something like reversed wiring so I made an adapter to
- switch the two phone wires. This did not help.
- I suspect the following and would welcome comments. The Zoom V34C
- PC Card modem has a PBX voltage protection circuit to prevent damage
- from digital phone lines. I believe that his phone lines are running
- at a voltage high enough to cause this circuit to activate preventing
- the dial tone from being received. Does this seem logical? How could
- I test this accurately with a volt meter? What is the best course for
- getting this resolved? Any ideas most welcome.
